Overview

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition marked by organ dysfunction and other physiologic changes caused by a host response to infection. Although the prognosis of patients with sepsis has improved through advances in critical care management, mortality from sepsis remains high. Dr. Devang Sanghavi, Vice Chair of Practice, Critical Care Medicine, Mayo Clinic, will review key considerations and controversies surrounding sepsis identification and resuscitation. He will review clinical studies of estimated plasma volume (ePV), an important new tool for managing the volume status of critically ill patients.
