Presentation Overview 

Point-of-care testing (POCT) is increasingly used in the prehospital setting to assist health care providers in making decisions on patient care while on scene and during transport. This presentation will review prehospital evidenced-based guidelines that are available to direct POCT implementation and support.  Recent examples of POCT-related pre-hospital research that can help to inform future evidence-based guidelines will also be highlighted.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how to access and utilize the free online database of prehospital evidence-based guidelines created by the Prehospital Guidelines Consortium 
  • Discuss the importance of prehospital research to generating prehospital evidence-based guidelines 
  • Describe two recent examples of POCT-related prehospital research studies
